Boulogne-Billancourt is a commune in the western suburbs of Paris, located 8 km (5 mi) from its centre. It is a subprefecture of the Hauts-de-Seine department and thus the seat of the larger arrondissement of Boulogne-Billancourt.
It includes two large islands in the Seine: Île Saint-Germain and Île Seguin. In 2018, it had a population of 121,334, which made it the department's most populous commune. Boulogne-Billancourt is the most populous suburb of Paris and one of the most densely populated municipalities in Europe.
Boulogne-Billancourt is known for being the birthplace of three major French industries. It was the location, in 1906 for the very first aircraft factory, that of Appareils d'Aviation Les Frères Voisin, which was then followed by those of many other aviation pioneers, and the tradition continues with several aviation related companies still operating in the area.
The automobile industry had a large presence with Renault on Île Seguin, as well as Salmson building both cars and aircraft engines. Finally, the French film industry started here and, from 1922 to 1992 it was the home of the Billancourt Studios, and since becoming a major location for French film production. It was used as the setting of the TV show Code Lyoko.
Resulting from the merger at the beginning of 20th century between two cities, Boulogne-Billancourt has long had this dual fate of residential and industrial city. Also, even today, the city presents a contrasting urban morphology. One can distinguish, particularly in the real estate sector, the north (from the woods to the rue du Château or even to the route de la Reine, and which includes the historic heart of Boulogne-sur-Seine, the residential areas Haussmannianand the new center) from the south (with a more popular and industrial past and architecture). Today, the Point du Jour district has become the headquarters of many companies, and the Renault-Billancourt district is in full swing with the upcoming redevelopment of Renault land; this dichotomy therefore tends to disappear. With its different districts, Boulogne-Billancourt has a diversified architectural heritage: old launderers' houses, Haussmannian buildings and hotels, small brick houses and workers' buildings, large complexes and architect villas from the 1930s, buildings and residences of modern architecture. , a new center from the early 2000s ...
This disparity means that the urban landscape of Boulogne is made up of ruptures and conflicts between the architecture of the old Boulogne-sur-Seine old and the one of the modern Boulogne-Billancourt. Modern buildings blend more or less well into traditional urban morphology resulting in a lack of architectural cohesion in many streets in Boulogne
Since the release of World Update 4, the northern and eastern parts of the city are covered by photogrammetry, leaving the rest of the area populated with procedural buildings. The mod aims at covering specific buildings which are not rendered faithfully by the defaults ones.
This pack does NOT contain a full photogrammetry extract of the city in order to keep acceptable size and performances for lower configurations. It covers the following mods:
-La Seine Musicale: a music and performing arts center located on Île Seguin, an island on the Seine river between Boulogne-Billancourt and Sèvres. The initial complex of buildings on the island opened in April 2017 and were designed by the architectural team of Shigeru Ban and Jean de Gastines. The facilities include an elevated egg-shaped auditorium for classical music, a larger modular concert hall, rehearsal rooms and an extensive roof garden. Much of the site's daytime energy needs are supplied by a large mobile curved solar panel array that covers the smaller auditorium.
-Quartier Pont de Sèvres: containing offices and the largest housing estate of Boulogne-Billancourt and comprising 1,258 social housing units with a very characteristic architecture. It is completed by the Place Haute mod covering two symmetric spiraling buildings.
-The Tour Horizons is a high-rise building on the Le Trapèze site (formerly Renault land) and which was delivered in June 2011 after 30 months of work. This tower is a stack of three buildings in very different styles resulting in a very specific aspect. In 2011, the building won the SIMI Grand Prize in the “New building” category.
-Siège social Renault: a curved building housing Renault headquarters
