Wau AYWU Version 2 serves the old gold rush town of Wau. The airfield dates back to 1927 when mining equipment had to be flown into the Edie creek alluvial mine
NOTAM 1: Field slope of 12% upward towards Mt Kaindi. Approach from the northeast and land/takeoff downhill only
NOTAM 2: Beware of animals and people on the airfield
IMPORTANT: This is a complete remake of my earlier V1 scenery of Wau. MAKE SURE you DELETE my V1 before installing this one
NOTE: No dependencies required however you must have World update 7 (Australia) World update 12 (New Zealand) AND World update 13 (Pacific) installed for all objects to be displayed
This scenery is FREE. Delete it if you don't like it. No requests for changes please

Thanks so much for this strip. My earliest memories at 4yo are of Wau, even remember an RAAF Dakota that crashed and sent up a huge ball of flame as we watched from our lounge room window. The pilot was not made aware there was that infamous 12 degree slope and on touching down decided he needed to go around because the strip looked too short to pull up in, tried to turn at the top and slid one wing into the dirt. All got out OK. There was another story about this airstrip, this from my father's book; 'The steepness of the airstrip was attested by the corroding wreck of a Bristol freighter aircraft resting at the bottom. It had come to a premature end while on a world proving flight undertaken to publicise the new machine. The pilot had not parked the aircraft at right angles to the slope as was customaruy—and necessary—and after the crew disembarked and were being welcomed by the local dignitaries, the parking brakes let go and everybody watched in horror as the plane trundled down the length of the airstrip, to suffer terminal damage as it crashed into trees at the bottom.'

Hi nojwood
Thanks for the comments. Yeah, Wau was a great place in the old days. Made a few trips there during my 22 years in PNG. So many visiting pilots from Australia and overseas through they were too clever to listen to advice from local pilots and paid a heavy price!
So I'm pleased you are enjoying it. Hope you are also checking out my other PNG sceneries too.
Cheers

Hello nice scenery but have 2 pink palm trees showing up

Hi and thanks for your comment.
The "pink Palm trees" are a plant called Bougainvillea which is prevalent all over the pacific. They grow everywhere in New Guinea and will easily consume entire trees or houses over time. They come in various colours however pink is common
