Flugplatz Stade is a small airfield 5 km / 3.1 mi southeast of the Hanseatic City of Stade in Lower Saxony, Germany, about 34 km / 21 mi away from Hamburg (EDDH).
The history of the airfield goes back to 1935, when the German air force started building an air base to the south of the town of Stade. By the end of the 1930s the construction of large aircraft maintenance hangars and the first concrete runway (1200 m / 3937 ft) were completed. The second runway (1000 m / 3281 ft) was built in 1941. A third runway, which would have connected with the other two to form a triangle shape, was in construction, but was never finished.
After the war, the British army took control of the airfield (designation B-162) and used it as a vehicle park. Among the wreckage of several aircraft an incomplete Ju-248 V1 prototype was found. The two runways were blown up and removed by the end of the 1940s.
In 1951, the year the allies allowed gliding in Germany again, the airfield was given back to German authorities. The aviation club "Luftsportverein Günther Groenhoff e.V." (which was founded just the year before) was being allowed to use parts of the airfield.
Two of the southern taxiways were coated with asphalt, one of them becoming the runway. Although nothing remains of the original runways, you can still see the concrete slabs of the original taxiway beside the new asphalted one.
Add-on features:
- flattened terrain for a smooth taxiing and take off experience
- all buildings, aprons, taxiways and the runway have been placed in their original positions
- new ATC frequency 132.740 (which in real life is mostly active during weekends)
- uses the default MSFS objects, no need to download extra libraries (only V1.0)
- very small installation size (only 208 KB)
Where to go after departing from EDHS:
- do a sightseeing flight above the town of Stade and it's old city center, first mentioned in historic recordings in the year 994 (2.5 NM)
- take a trip to Hamburg (EDDH), the oldest and fifth largest airport in Germany (18 NM)
- head further north to Denmark and visit the beautiful town of Copenhagen (EKCH, 165 NM)
- fly to Finkenwerder (EDHI) near Hamburg and see where the Airbus A318, A319, A321 and parts of the A320 fleet get assembled and make their maiden flights (13 NM)
- follow the river Elbe upstream, past "Altes Land" (Old Country), the biggest contiguous fruit-producing region in North Europe
- fly even further upstream until you reach Magdeburg (EDBC, 124 NM), Dresden (EDDC, 214 NM) or even the outskirts of Prague (LKPR, 273 NM)
- or follow the river Elbe downstream until you reach the North Sea, maybe land on Heligoland, far off the coast (EDXH, 68 NM)

Wonderful scenery, love the people and the atmosphere. Stopped here on my around the world tour at sunset, and it was breathtaking. Great work!
